Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, after sacking the head of the military, Romeo Vasquez, will be going ahead with Sunday's referendum on the constitution. Zelaya has the support of ordinary people, farmers, labour and civic organizations, and of course the constitutional right to hold such a referendum.
So far, the USA does not look to be invading, or openly intervening on the side of the enemies of the non-binding referendum. "For the time being", says Larry Birns, director of the Council on Hemispheric Affairs.
